Shannon Mathis Meyer, LCSW, CAC II

Hiram and Rome Offices

I've been a therapist for 6 years, and have worked in the mental health field for the past 15 years. I graduated in 2010 from UNC Chapel Hill School of Social Work, which is one of the top 5 schools in the U.S. for social work. I am licensed in Georgia as a LCSW. I have experience working with individuals, families, children, and adults, who are struggling with various mental illnesses or just the stress of everyday life. I have extensive experience with anxiety and mood disorders, as well as with those with trauma. I utilize techniques such as CBT, person-centered, mindfulness, and motivational interviewing to help people learn how to improve their lives and be well.

Shannon is specialized in trauma treatment and she is trained and utilizes EMDR in her practice. Please see further information regarding EMDR under Services.

Getting help does not have to be a chore. If you have found yourself having to work harder than you should to maintain your day-to-day life, give me a chance to change your perspective. My wholistic approach to therapy is grounded in neuroscience and systems theory. I combine traditional practices with the latest research to help my clients not only to grow beyond the obstacles they find in their path right now but to ensure they have the tools that they can use day to day to effect measurable change in their lives.

I have experience helping adults, young adults, families, couples, and groups, having difficulty with ADHD, Depression, Anxiety, Stress Management, Relationships, and Mood Disorders. I employ Evidence-based Treatment modalities including DBT, CBT, and Mindfulness practices. I have flexible availability and am certified to provide telemental health.

I seek to provide a safe space for people of all walks of life. I am familiar with and support clients in the LGBTQIA+ community, non-traditional relationships, and those of non-mainstream religious affiliation. I look forward to helping you renew your perspective, build stronger positive relationships, and find a new more comfortable balance in your life.

“When working with clients, I aim to get to the heart of the matter and help them become their best selves.”

Hello! Thank you for choosing to learn more about me! I am passionate about helping individuals heal, reclaim their lives, and maintain well-being. In some households, it is common to teach children “what goes on at home, stays at home.” Although the intent is to keep others from prying into family matters, the reality is this concept causes individuals to suffer in silence. As a result, many children suffer in silence and grow up to be adults with unresolved childhood wounds and traumas. It takes incredible courage to speak up, speak out, and seek help. I am happy that you are here and have decided to take the first step to improve your mental health and well-being.

I have an Associate Degree in Accounting Technology from Asher School of Business, a Bachelor of Business Administration from Strayer University, and a Master of Science in Professional Counseling from Grand Canyon University. I am currently pre-licensed and under the supervision of Catrin Jensen, LPC, CPCS.

Some of the modalities I use are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, DBT, Mindfulness, and Reality Based Therapy. My approach is eclectic and holistic and will address every aspect of your life to ensure you become complete and whole. My focus areas include working with teens and adults; anxiety, depression, grief, LGBTQIA, PTSD, spiritual concerns.

I'm so happy you have chosen to start the therapy process! I am passionate about working with couples, individuals, adolescences, and teenagers through life stage changes as well as relational and behavioral issues. My desire is for every client to feel known and cared for when they start the therapeutic process. Beginning your journey of healing, self-discovery, and growth is no small feat and everyone that walks through my door is brave for being willing to make a change. I believe that all people are created and built to be in relationship with one another. We all long to be in connection with others who support, love, and care for us along our journey. We find that deep sense of connection within our families, friends, co-workers, and people in the community with whom we associate. Even though relationships can bring us joy, we as human beings are not perfect and therefore make mistakes in our relationships that lead to heartache and brokenness. This is where therapy can bring healing for people who have experienced sadness, anxiety, feeling alone, and trauma. My hope is that as your therapist, I can give you insight, share interventions, as well as teach skills and techniques that will enrich your life and relationships.

I am currently pre-licensed and under the supervision of Catrin Jensen, LPC, CPCS.
